Council approves Patriot Fuels amendment and clears routine consent items

At its June 24 meeting the Kewanee City Council approved Resolution #5172 authorizing the City Manager to execute an amendment to the city’s agreement with Patriot Fuels, LLC. City Manager Bradley said Patriot Fuels paid $80,000 last year and agreed to pay an additional $80,000 to correct a mistake in the original agreement’s end date. The resolution passed on a motion by Council Member Komnick, seconded by Council Member Faber (roll call 5–0).

The council also approved routine consent items, including minutes from June 10, 2019, payroll for the period ending June 8, 2019 in the amount of $222,895.02, and permission for Hog Capital Barbeque, Inc. to use streets and parking for the Hog Capital of the World Festival (Aug. 30–Sep. 2, 2019). Bills totaling $360,030.82 were approved (motion by Komnick, seconded by Faber). Council Member Faber questioned an Auto Electric invoice for $1,262.75; Grounds Maintenance Manager Newton explained the charge covered contracted repair of an ambulance A/C because the Fleet Technician was unavailable. Bradley explained that a Nationwide Retirement payout reflected unused sick time paid to a retired fireman under a side letter agreement that affects firefighters hired before 2010.

The council approved a fireworks permit for July 4 and other routine items. No further action was taken on a Shell liquor license request, which died for lack of a motion.
