Pinellas commissioners mark Semiquincentennial, Juneteenth and honor waste workers

The board proclaimed July 4, 2026, as the 250th anniversary of the United States (the Semiquincentennial) and welcomed members of the Daughters of the American Revolution's Caladesi chapter to accept the recognition. Chair remarks noted the milestone and invited chapter leaders to speak and join for photos.
The commission also declared June 19, 2026, as Juneteenth in Pinellas County and presented a proclamation recognizing Dan Henry's historic role in establishing the Danville community. David Baldwin and family accepted on behalf of the Henry family; Wanda McCarthy of Friends of Ridgecrest described local Juneteenth events and encouraged residents to attend community programming.
A third proclamation recognized June 15—19 as Waste and Recycling Workers Week and honored county solid-waste staff and private haulers. Paul Sacco, director of Pinellas County Solid Waste, and representatives from municipal and contracted partners thanked the board and stressed worker safety; staff noted the county's waste system involves municipal, private and nonprofit partners and highlighted a multi-year safety record.
The proclamations were largely ceremonial; commissioners and guests used the presentations to promote upcoming community events and to thank workers whose duties support public health and the county's sanitation system.
The board moved next to public hearings and the regular agenda.
