Arnold trustees adopt new water and sewer rates and create code enforcement officer

The Village of Arnold Board of Trustees on Feb. 10 adopted ordinances setting new water and sewer rates and created a Code Enforcement Officer position.

Ordinance No. 485, to set water service rates under Chapter 3, Article 1, §3-108 of the Village Municipal Code, was taken up after the board suspended the statutory three-reading rule. Trustee Austin Snyder moved for final passage and Trustee Jason Jenkins seconded; all four members present voted in favor and the chairman signed the ordinance.

The board followed the same procedure to adopt Ordinance No. 486, setting sewer rates under Chapter 3, Article 2, §3-206. Trustee Jason Jenkins moved for final passage, Trustee Austin Snyder seconded, and the ordinance was adopted by unanimous roll call.

Trustees then debated and adopted Ordinance No. 487, creating a Code Enforcement Officer pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. §18-1757. During discussion Trustee Jason Jenkins asked whether enforcement would require written complaints; Village Clerk Patricia Lamberty responded, "there does not need to be written complaints to enforce Ordinances." The ordinance passed on roll call with Trustees Bowers, Hagler and Snyder voting Aye and Trustee Jenkins voting Nay.

Chairman Zach Hagler appointed Tory Edwards, Eric Holmberg and himself as Code Enforcement Officers. The board approved those appointments in a subsequent motion (Aye: Bowers, Hagler, Jenkins, Snyder).

The ordinances take effect as provided in the ordinance texts and were signed and attested by the chairman and the clerk during the meeting.
