Council updates administration code to align department names

At its Dec. 3 meeting the Presque Isle City Council approved amendments to Chapter 49 of the city code to bring department names into alignment with current operations.
City staff told the council that the ordinance had last been updated in January 2025 and that some departments listed were obsolete or missing. Council members agreed to two specific edits: changing "economic planning and development" to "planning and economic development," and removing the word "department" from "facilities management department" so the entry would read "facilities management." "That's probably redundant, Mike," one council member said in support of the shorter label, and the council approved the ordinance as amended.
The amendment was presented as an organizational cleanup rather than a policy change; the chair and city manager described it as an effort to "align our current departments" and to remove obsolete references. The motion to accept the ordinance with the two edits passed on a voice vote.
The council did not attach additional substantive policy changes to the chapter update at this meeting; staff will publish the updated code language and reflect the edits in the city's official code repository.
