Covington administrator reports progress on wastewater, Main–Bridge intersection and High Street demolition

Tyler Rench, the Village of Covington administrator, gave a multi-item construction and facilities update at the July 1 council meeting.

Rench said the wastewater treatment project required relocating a boring three times. He said the Main and Bridge Street intersection is currently operating as a three-way; staff plan to leave it as configured for now, but the intersection will require a future closure and the timing and duration of that closure will be determined later. Rench also reported extensive masonry work for an unspecified building is complete, the contractor expects windows by the beginning of August, and tuckpointing will be done only where brick will be exposed.

High Street demolition is 98% complete; Rench said construction fencing is in place to protect seeded areas and a permanent fence will be installed soon. At Schoolhouse Park, Shoreline has pulled final power lines but the electric panel has not yet arrived; the village is working with engineers on possible work-arounds and will prepare a final punch list. Rench also said he, Denlinger Enterprise and Access Engineers met about a proposed housing development and the council favored street lighting that matches the Brookstone neighborhood theme.

Mayor Lee Harmon invited council and employees to a July 11 carry-in at Community Park. The meeting record does not indicate firm timelines for the intersection closure or Schoolhouse Park panel installation; staff were asked to continue coordination with contractors and engineers.
