Malcolm trustees table large road projects, ask for more bids on generator and electrical work

During the Nov. 6 meeting the Village of Malcolm trustees reviewed estimates and processes for chip sealing and asphalting gravel roads, but deferred action to the Dec. 4 meeting to allow public hearings and additional information.
The discussion referenced cost estimates from Cather Construction and Topkote, Inc. and a letter from Miller and Associates about pursuing an improvement-district approach. Trustees agreed the item needs further review and tabled it.
A generator bid of $41,711 was presented by Trustee Jason Lemkau; trustees asked for an additional bid and tabled the purchase to December. Separately, the board approved changing the proposed crack-sealing contractor from NL Driveway to Craig Beck because of pricing differences and tabled the multi-year contracts until a complete quote from Craig Beck is available.
The board approved Wolfe Electric’s bid for electrical-panel updates at the maintenance shop (up to $13,000, with authorized change orders) and directed staff to obtain a quote from Codr Plumbing for a replacement valve related to an East Street fire hydrant that the board voted to purchase. Those approvals were recorded as motions with unanimous votes.
