Jennifer Selensky, Finance Director, asked the Marshfield Finance, Budget and Personnel Committee to recommend Common Council approval of budget resolution 16-2026, a continuing-appropriations measure that restores prior-year committed items to the current budget. "Our continuing appropriation exercise is a manual process … where we identify items in the budget that we don't think will be spent and need to be carried over into the subsequent year," Selensky said.
Selensky told the committee the request includes $36,257 for the general fund tied to an in-process software implementation and a longer list of line-item carryovers across capital project and TIF district funds that were budgeted but not spent. "There’s a long list of those expenditures included in your packet," she said, and recommended approval to increase the relevant budgets in accordance with items added to committed fund balance in the prior year.
A motion to recommend council approval was made and seconded; by voice vote the committee approved forwarding resolution 16-2026 to the Common Council. The committee did not record a roll-call vote on the floor for this recommendation.
Next steps: the recommendation will be considered by the Common Council under its regular agenda. The committee did not specify exact line-item details beyond the amounts noted in the packet.
