The Marshfield Plan Commission on June 16 approved an amendment to the master sign plan for the Walmart at 2001 North Central Avenue to permit updated branding, several face changes and additional interior wayfinding signage tied to a store renovation.
Zoning administrator Bob Larson said the proposal updates an older 2006 master sign plan and that the applicant submitted an updated existing-signage table and photographs. Staff reported the site currently has about 16 signs totaling roughly 535.16 square feet; the proposed package includes 27 signs (12 interior-oriented that do not require permits, eight face changes and six new wall signs) and represents a net reduction from prior approvals in overall authorized building sign area.
Larson explained the sign code allows flexibility for large developments and for additional wall-sign area when a building exceeds minimum setbacks. Staff recommended approval with conditions that each new or changed sign conform to the approved locations and area limits in the staff schedule, that interior-oriented signs do not require permits, and that applicable sign fees be paid before installation.
Commissioner Scott moved the motion, it was seconded and the commission approved by voice vote. Staff said the applicant has paid the $150 master plan fee and that individual sign fees ($50 per new sign; $25 per face change) will be collected at permit stage.
Next steps: the sign company must submit individual sign permits and pay the applicable fees before installing permanent signage.
