Farmington R‑VII honors spring athletes; track roster tops 150 as school records fall

At its regular meeting the Farmington R‑VII School Board recognized spring track and golf teams. Coach Stone highlighted a record turnout of 152 track athletes, numerous school records and postseason honors; Hazel Parrot was named girls MVP and Josh McCarthy and Axton Brunie were named co‑boys MVPs.
Coach Stone, introduced by the board, detailed a standout season for Farmington track, saying the program finished the year with a roster of 152 athletes and ‘‘set school records in almost 50% of the events.’’ He credited strong participation and coaching depth for conference championships for both boys and girls teams and said the boys and girls maintained long runs of conference success (boys: 16 of the last 19; girls: 18 of the last 19).
Coach Stone read a long list of individual postseason honors and school records. He named Hazel Parrot the girls Hail Memorial MVP, noting her six all‑conference honors, four all‑district marks and multiple state qualifying events. On the boys side the coaches selected co‑MVPs Josh McCarthy — who broke school records in the 100 and 200 meters and was part of two record‑setting relays — and Axton Brunie, who is headed to the New Balance National Championships after running an 800 in 1:52 last weekend.
Coach Stone also cited several athletes who will continue their careers at the collegiate level and highlighted academic all‑state honorees among the roster. "I'm sure everybody's thrilled to see me roll up here with this box full of stuff I got to hand out tonight," Coach Stone said as he presented awards.
In a separate recognition, Coach DS summarized the golf team’s season: an 8–0 regular season that led to a conference championship, a team score of 318 to win the conference tournament, and a third‑place finish at district. He listed individual honors and state qualifiers and thanked administrators, the booster club and parents for support.
The board applauded the student athletes and coaches during the recognitions; no formal board action was required for the awards portion of the agenda.
