Commission orders compliance in two code‑enforcement cases: garage setback and unpermitted vacation‑rental structures

The board took two enforcement actions at its June 16 meeting.
1) Olsson garage setback: Planning and zoning staff reported that a structure permitted originally as a carport was enclosed into a garage and that the building now appears to be inside required setbacks (staff gave approximate on‑site measurements of 19–23 feet where 25 feet are required). Neighbors also alleged right‑of‑way encroachment and erosion. Staff asked the owner, Brett Olsson, to obtain a professional survey and either remove the structure or apply for a variance. The board voted to find the property in violation and ordered the owner to provide a survey showing distances, apply for any needed variances or permits, and come into compliance within 60 days.
2) Moer vacation‑rental (VHR) compliance: Staff found that an on‑site structure exceeded allowable square footage and lacked required building permits and that the property had been advertised as a short‑term rental. The owners have applied for a multiple‑use permit and have engaged electrical and plumbing inspections; planning staff asked for time to complete permitting steps with a planning‑commission hearing scheduled. The board found the property in violation, ordered cessation of VHR operations and required the owners to obtain permits, inspections and approvals within 60 days or face further enforcement.
Both motions were approved by majority vote. The board said staff should return if survey or permit documentation is not provided within the deadline.
