The Plainfield Town Council approved the first of three readings for two ordinances that would change Town Code to clarify purchasing authority and purchasing-agency roles.
Ordinance No. 01-2026 would amend Chapter 31, Section 21 to adjust the duties and responsibilities of the town manager so the manager's purchasing authority matches the statutory small-purchase threshold. Town Manager Andrew Klinger said the change would "adjust my purchasing authority as Town Manager to match the statutory amounts for what is considered a small purchase under statute, which is $50,000," and would also clarify authority to approve contracts within that purchasing amount.
Ordinance No. 04-2026 would revise Chapter 34 concerning the Purchasing Agent and Purchasing Agency. Both ordinances passed on first reading after motions and roll-call votes recorded as unanimous.
