The Suffield Board of Education unanimously approved on June 15 a five‑year transportation contract extension with M&J Bus Company and authorized Superintendent Matt Dunbar to execute the agreement.
District administration told the board the contract includes a 14% increase from fiscal year 2026 to 2027, with subsequent annual increases of roughly 4–5 percent. Administration also said transportation costs are primarily driven by labor because the district supplies fuel, and the updated contract language adds protections to strengthen the district’s position on service performance.
The agreement also establishes fleet age requirements, and board members discussed the state's long‑term mandate to transition school buses to electric vehicles during the review.
MOTION #26‑74 was moved by James Mol and seconded by Maureen Sattan; all members voted in favor and the motion passed 7–0.
The board did not vote on or adopt a local timetable to convert the fleet to electric vehicles at this meeting.
