Park County weighs Chico site upgrades and container purchases for refuse program

On containers, staff proposed moving toward 8‑yard front‑load containers at busy sites to reduce the number of service calls and said buying 30‑yard metal recycling containers (about $7,000 each) would pay back the county within a couple of years compared with ongoing rental costs (~$3,500/year). Matt said staff try to repair older containers when practical but often recycle them for scrap when they are bent or rotted out.
Commissioners asked about the number of units to buy and options to refurbish older equipment; staff said quantities would depend on price at time of purchase and that some savings could be realized by selling scrap or refurbishing usable units.
What happens next: staff will incorporate potential grant offsets into the capital list and seek engineering design for the Chico retaining wall if the commission supports moving forward.
