Board directs superintendent to develop standalone Conroe ISD Education Foundation plan if MOU not finalized by July

Trustees discussed plans to transfer responsibilities from the existing Conroe Education Foundation to district control and to accelerate fundraising and program support. After extended discussion about financials, donor relationships and transition timing the board voted to direct the superintendent to prepare a plan for a standalone Conroe ISD Education Foundation and report back on July 21, 2026. The motion included an amendment: if an MOU (described in discussion as an "anou") between the district and the current foundation is not in place by the July meeting, the superintendent should present the standalone plan as an alternative. The amended motion passed by voice/hand vote (recorded as 6–1).
Administration said it had obtained foundation financials and would continue working with the current foundation to complete necessary documentation; trustees voiced urgency to start foundation activities supporting scholarships, grants and school programs rather than remain in a holding pattern.
Why it matters: A functioning education foundation can accelerate fundraising for scholarships, program initiatives and classroom support. Trustees sought both continuity with the current foundation’s donors and a contingency plan so district philanthropic activity can proceed this school year if the transfer stalls.
