Fire and sheriff’s reports highlight response metrics, camera program and roundabout access concerns

The Youngtown Common Council received monthly reports from Sun City Fire and Medical District and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 19.
Fire Chief Schmitz reviewed SCFD inspections, prevention work, response-time metrics, and discussed budgets, no-burn days and smoke-detector installations. Lieutenant Keller presented MCSO statistics on traffic enforcement, thefts, violent crimes, trespassing and homelessness-related issues and described the deployment of Flock Safety cameras.
Town staff and the council raised a design concern about a Peoria/Nofs roundabout: Sun City Fire said a 48-foot ladder truck would need to make a three-point turn to navigate the intersection and would not be able to complete a standard circulatory movement in all directions. Community Development/Public Infrastructure Manager Gregory Arrington and the Town Manager plan to review the roundabout plans with designers and the town engineer to determine necessary adjustments and whether easements accommodate large apparatus.
