UMAC warns PFAS testing requirements will add expense; lead and copper reporting next step

At the Feb. 11 meeting, Troy Elless of UMAC told the Wingate Town Board that new PFAS drinking-water regulations require sampling twice a year and warned the council that the testing would be costly for the town. Elless said he is in the process of obtaining quotes for the required chemical testing.
Elless also reported elevated ammonia at the wastewater plant, which he attributed to expected wintertime conditions, and discussed the town’s lead and copper service-line reporting. He said Sherri Winters prepared the town’s first lead and copper survey and that she will provide a quote to assist with the next phase of reporting to keep the town compliant.
No formal action or funding appropriation for PFAS testing was recorded in the transcript; the board heard the report and received recommendations that staff obtain cost estimates.
