Two‑Stepin Brewery told the City of Boulder Beverage Licensing Authority on June 17 that it seeks to include a newly built patio within its licensed premises after the city recently amended the municipal code to exclude patio area from brewery square‑footage calculations.
Applicant Patrick Sullivan described a south‑facing rectangular patio with two entrances from the interior (a roll‑top door and a hallway with a locking door), permanent fencing on the south and west sides, and controlled openings that will be chained and marked "no alcohol beyond this premises." Sullivan said the brewery will not staff the patio for sales; patrons will purchase drinks at the indoor bar and then move to the patio.
Member Lanse Crane asked whether the applicant had discussed the change with its insurance broker; Sullivan said the brewery will notify its insurer but has delayed that step until the city application was approved. Staff and board members praised the rapid city code change (passed in May) that made the request possible and moved to approve the premises modification. Chair Leah Roberts moved to approve; Member Ginger Barnes seconded and the Authority voted to approve the patio inclusion. Staff said the formal approval package will be sent after the ordinance becomes effective later this month.
The application had been filed May 27, 2026. Sullivan said the patio addition is part of the East Boulder development context and would expand outdoor seating without creating new on‑site sales points.
