Field Local Board elects 2025 leadership, sets meeting schedule and administrative authorizations

At its Jan. 13 organizational meeting, the Field Local Board of Education unanimously elected its president and vice president, designated officers and liaisons for 2025, set a monthly meeting schedule, approved routine financial delegations including a $6,000 service fund, and named Todd Carpenter as public records compliance officer.
The Field Local Board of Education convened its organizational meeting on Jan. 13, 2025, at Field High School Cafeteria and unanimously adopted the meeting agenda.
Member Steve Calcei was elected president of the board for calendar year 2025 after Member Porter nominated him and no other nominations were made. Member Porter was elected vice president following a nomination by Member Slaven. The board also designated Member Evans as Treasurer Pro Tempore to serve in the Treasurer’s absence during 2025.
The board made several administrative appointments and delegations for the year. Member Slaven was appointed Ohio School Boards Association Legislative Liaison and Student Achievement Liaison. Member Stewart was named the district representative to the Suffield Township Tax Incentive Review Committee, which meets annually in March at the Suffield Township administration building.
The board authorized a slate of legal firms to provide services on an hourly, contingency, or flat-rate basis as needed. It established a Service Fund of $6,000 for 2025 to defray board members’ expenses under Ohio law, and approved continuation of membership in the Ohio School Boards Association and the OSBA Legal Assistance Fund.
Todd Carpenter, the district treasurer, was appointed public records compliance officer in accordance with Ohio public-records statutes. The board delegated routine financial authorities to the Treasurer, including paying bills within approved appropriation limits, modifying appropriations and reporting those modifications to the board, borrowing within legal limits, preparing blanket and super certificates not to exceed $100,000 for recurring predictable operating expenses, securing tax advances, and maintaining a $100,000 position bond for the Treasurer. The board authorized the Superintendent to act as purchasing agent, approve special trips and field trips, and approve staff attendance and reimbursements for professional training under board policy.
The board designated the Record Courier and the Akron Beacon Journal as the district’s official newspapers for 2025 and set regular meetings for the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Field High School Cafeteria, with the regular November meeting moved to the third Monday. The board noted that public hearings required by O.R.C. 3313.48(B) on the school calendar will be held before the March meeting and indicated no major changes for the 2026–2027 calendar.
All motions were approved by unanimous roll call votes. The meeting adjourned at 6:46 p.m., and minutes were attested by District Treasurer Todd Carpenter and signed by President Steve Calcei.
