Fernandina Beach hires PGA instructor for player development program

The Fernandina Beach Golf Club has hired PGA instructor Scott Wamboll to lead the course's player development program, golf director Jeffrey Biggers told the advisory board on Feb. 27.
Biggers said Wamboll will provide individual and group instruction, work with junior golfers and coordinate clinics and playing lessons when the course is available. "He's been doing this a really long time, and I'm looking forward to him starting," Biggers said.
The instructor will operate on an 80/20 split (80% to the instructor, 20% to the golf course). Biggers said the instructor must provide daily lesson logs and a monthly summary to accounts payable for payout and oversight. Initial programming will focus on short-game lessons because of current driving-range conditions, with plans to expand offerings when the range reopens.
Staff expect the hire to increase exposure and participation, including outreach to local high-school players and summer camps. The board heard that lessons and clinics will run Monday through Saturday with some evening clinics planned; staff also plan a modest social-media and on-site marketing push.
