Kossuth County supervisors approve claims, hire authorization and payroll adjustment; drainage and scheduling matters deferred

At its June 16, 2026 meeting the Kossuth County Board of Supervisors approved vendor claims and conservation/drainage claims, authorized an IT director job offer, approved a liquor license for ABATE of Iowa and adopted a resolution to issue a $139.07 supplemental June payment to each supervisor; several drainage items and vacation schedule issues were discussed but deferred.
The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors handled routine county business June 16, approving vendor payments, personnel actions and a short-term payroll adjustment while leaving several drainage and scheduling items for future meetings.
The board unanimously approved claims (general, conservation and drainage) and recorded detailed vendor listings in the minutes, including a reported general claims grand total of $1,436,921.11 and a separate drainage grand total of $797,814.68. Supervisor Howard Haas moved to approve the claims with Supervisor Kyle Stecker seconding; the motion carried unanimously.
Supervisors also voted to authorize offering the IT Director position to the top candidate and to approve a liquor license for ABATE of Iowa, Inc. Both actions carried on unanimous motions. A separate personnel motion by Supervisor Kyle Stecker to match Secondary Roads vacation schedules to a 40-hour work week died for lack of a second; a later motion to approve all employee vacation schedules was withdrawn and the issue was tabled for further discussion next week.
The board adopted Resolution #06-16-26-02 to issue a one-time supplemental check of $139.07 to each supervisor on June 19, 2026 to align FY2026 salary accounting with the county’s switch from monthly to bi-weekly payroll. The resolution records each supervisor’s FY2026 salary as $43,391.00 and states that the payment will satisfy the FY2026 salary requirement.
Other business included a monthly update from Veterans Affairs Director Dan Green; a Planning & Zoning update from Corey Petersen; discussion with the County Engineer about routine engineering matters; and discussion of drainage ditch spraying bids and a proposed three-year rotation. Supervisor Haas said he will contact TBB Spraying and B & W Control Specialists to develop a better plan for next year. The board also assigned specific drainage requests to supervisors for follow-up and deferred review of the DD 40 televising report to the next meeting when all supervisors are present.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:27 A.M. on a unanimous vote.
