North Kingstown panel approves commissioning agent for elementary school capital projects

The North Kingstown School Department Building Advisory Committee voted June 23 to approve a recommendation to award commissioning-agent services for the district's remaining capital improvement projects to Stephen Turner.

A committee speaker said the district issued an RFQ on May 22 with submissions due June 8 and received four proposals that were reviewed by a subgroup. The presenter recommended awarding the contract to Stephen Turner for commissioning services covering the elementary schools and the Davisville Academy Early Learning Center, saying the work fits within an existing $200,000 line item for commissioning services.

The presenter described the budget breakdown: $50,000 is reserved for Davisville Middle School and $25,000 for each of the five elementary schools and the Davisville Academy Early Learning Center, totaling $200,000. "We have $200,000 dedicated for commissioning services," the chair said during the presentation.

A committee member moved to approve the recommendation and another committee member seconded the motion. The chair called for a voice vote, heard assent and no nays, and announced the motion approved. The committee said it will forward the recommendation to the school committee at its Thursday meeting and then to the town for final action.

The committee also approved the minutes from its June 3 meeting by voice vote and had no public commenters at the June 23 session. Members noted a potential Perkins Eastman amendment for continued design of a heat-source-pump alternative that had not arrived in time; the committee tabled that item to a future summer meeting and held a tentative date of July 15 for the next meeting.

The meeting adjourned after the business was completed.
