Miltona board accepts treasurer's report, approves culvert replacement and several variances

The Miltona Township Board accepted the treasurer's report and approved routine business at its Aug. 5 regular meeting. The treasurer reported total funds of $733,658.04 (Checking $3,130.12; Money Market $1,002.55; Intrafi $473,167.84; CD $256,357.53). The board moved to accept the report and to approve paying bills totaling $48,305.65.
On infrastructure, the board reviewed two cost options for a culvert on Miltona Bay Road: lining estimated at $15,630 and full replacement quoted at $6,000. The board voted to replace the culvert rather than line it (minutes record the motion as carried). The board also authorized Tom Blank to sign e-documents from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to accept DNR funds toward a culvert replacement on Vermont Access Road.
Land-use items included approval of a variance requested by Scott Elliot for part of a septic system located in the township right-of-way; the board directed Tom Blank to notify Land and Resource of the township approval. The board also approved a variance requested by James and Anne Loomis for deck improvements and a building within 10 feet of a property line.
Other routine items recorded in the minutes: notification of a dangerous-dog registration at a property with a posted sign; R & R will handle weeds on temporary easements along Vermont Access Road as part of regular August mowing; the board noted a District 9 meeting on Aug. 21; and a resident, Jim Eckert, raised a drainage concern and was advised to obtain written permission from neighbors before the township will perform right-of-way connection work.
The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.; the board set its next regular meeting for Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Miltona Community Center.
