At the Chilton County work session, a public commenter addressed the commission seeking $1,000 for a Juneteenth parade and said he had submitted the organization's 501(c)(3) paperwork for the commission’s consideration. Commissioners told him to complete the proper budget paperwork and noted that any funding would need to be placed in next fiscal year’s budget.
Cheryl Maddox asked the commission to approve the community corrections program to operate for the 2026–2027 year, saying the program is nonprofit and state‑funded. “We have 58 currently that are reporting weekly. And we have five that are in a rehab,” Maddox said, and asked only for the commission’s signature of approval because the program is funded through state reimbursements.
The sheriff announced a reclassification and pay‑rate change for an employee, Jennifer Davenport; commissioners had no questions. Transit staff member Keante requested reclassification of a part‑time driver to full time and gave a status update on ongoing tag‑office renovation planning, explaining that staff will return with more detailed cost estimates. County staff reported the probate judge requested the commission pay half of a moving invoice (All My Sons Moving and Storage) totaling $4,795.25 if split; commissioners left the item on the regular agenda for further review.
Other small items included a planned resolution to purchase gravel for the CCE site to lock in current contract prices and a $1,950 estimate to tint courthouse front windows at the deputy security station; commissioners discussed possible funding sources for the tinting.
Next steps: petitioners and staff were told to provide the required paperwork or return with details at the regular meeting for formal action.
