The Broward County School Board on Friday gave consensus for staff to pursue adding three district positions to support a planned enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation and to return with a formal board item for a July vote.
Superintendent Dr. Hepburn asked the board for direction to proceed so staff could present the necessary personnel approvals at the July meeting. Pete Eschenbrenner, director of the Enterprise Project Management Office and program manager for the ERP transformation, said the three positions (two procurement-focused roles and one focused on organizational change management) cost just over $180,000 from the general fund but are intended to provide dedicated capacity to ensure a successful multi-year implementation.
Eschenbrenner told the board the work was expected to produce up to $1.6 million in cost avoidance through better procurement and transition planning. "Number 1, they address immediate business needs that cannot reasonably be absorbed by existing staff ... and they provide dedicated capacity for ERP readiness, particularly in the domain of procurement continuity and organizational change management," Eschenbrenner said.
The board indicated no objection to moving forward; staff will prepare the formal item for the July meeting for a vote.
The item was treated as a request for consensus to bring a formal personnel and budget proposal back to the board rather than an immediate hiring authorization.
