Royalton council approves routine permits, bills and operational changes

At its May 5 meeting the Royalton City Council approved routine administrative and operational items including minutes, vouchers, permits and hours changes.
Council approved the April 7 and April 28 meeting minutes and authorized payment of voucher numbers 40906–40946 totaling $39,966.74. Council approved an animal permit for J. Gunderson for six hens and voted to approve a liquor license for Harley’s Handlebar and Grill at 212 East Centre Street contingent on providing proof of insurance. The council also approved closure of 2nd Street North behind the elementary school for end-of-year activities on May 22 and May 29, 2026.
On administrative matters, the council changed city hall hours to 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and voted to add City Administrator Rian Hofstad as a check signer at Pine Country Bank for the city’s Business Checking and Money Market accounts. The council also authorized issuing a Request for Proposal for Building Inspector Services.
A resolution concerning write-in votes was discussed but no action was taken. Councilmembers Weiss-Pesta and Verley volunteered to assist with a city cleanup at the compost site on May 14, 2026. The meeting adjourned at 8:33 p.m.
