Fort Collins’ Shift Your Ride program wins Larimer County environmental award

Jeff Puckett, the Fort Collins employee who leads the Shift Your Ride program, accepted the Larimer County Environmental Stewardship Award for translating a transportation demand management plan into a public-facing program that has boosted sustainable travel options.
Heidi Pruitt, manager for the Office of Sustainability and Climate at Larimer County, introduced Puckett and credited the program with doubling the number of employees biking to work, growing the Ride Match user base to nearly 300 (later updated to over 300), and generating more than 8,400 sustainable trips. Pruitt said the program provides “residents the tools to choose sustainable transportation.”
Larimer County Commissioner Jody McDevitt, chair of the Board of County Commissioners, praised the program’s practical impact on county sustainability goals and community buy-in, calling the combination of “innovation” and “determination” critical to reducing collective carbon footprints.
Accepting the award, Puckett described his decade in sustainable transportation and noted local enthusiasm for the program: “we've already logged, I think it was last I checked, 400 trips … with, I think, 3,000 miles logged” in the Summer Moves Challenge running June 1–30. He also confirmed that active users of the Ride Match program have surpassed 300.
The award recognizes implementation and public engagement for a program that county officials say turns planning into measurable action. The ceremony did not include any formal county action or policy vote related to the program; it was an awards recognition by the Environmental and Science Advisory Board and the Board of County Commissioners.
