Comfrey council approves routine bills, donations, appointments and permits

At its April 8 meeting the Comfrey City Council approved $59,666.12 in bills, accepted memorial donations to first responders, approved an assessor fee and assessment bill, hired a gravel-road dust treatment contractor, and approved a zoning variance and building permits.
The Comfrey City Council on April 8 approved routine municipal business, including payment of total bills of $59,666.12 and a financial report for March.
The council adopted a resolution accepting memorial donations to first responders of $60 from the Janice Evers Family, $50 from the Bruce Toll Family and $250 from Mathiowetz Construction. It also approved the March financial report and accepted the assessor's 2025 assessment bill of $3,822.60.
Council approved a proposed assessor fee increase of $0.90 per property for 2026 and approved several administrative items: hiring SW Dust Treatment to treat gravel roads at an estimated cost of $2,427; voting not to waive the State of Minnesota monetary tort limit; appointing Kevin Ludewig to the zoning commission to fill a vacancy; assigning the address 303 White St South to a new home in Samuelson First Addition Block 1, Lots 1 and 2; and issuing a building permit to Comfrey Public School for a storage shed. The council also approved purchase of $250 in flower pots from Blue Stem to be maintained by the garden club and discussed a potential donation of two trees.
The Zoning Commission recommended approval of a variance for Daniel and Jessica Riordan to construct an attached garage of approximately 2,000 square feet; the council approved the variance and the related building permit and address assignment.
The meeting concluded with recognition of Steve Berberich for MPCA recognition of outstanding wastewater operations and adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
