Clara told the board the application seeks up to 50% of the programs’ $13,000 budget, which would require a town match commitment of up to $6,500 if the grant is awarded. She said the application had already been submitted because of the grant’s timing but asked the board to formally authorize and support the proposal.
Council members and staff discussed the benefits of expanding tree canopy and noted that the tree ambassador program is currently supported in part by a volunteer. Board members expressed support for the initiatives and agreed the programs would help the town meet local environmental and canopy goals. The board voted unanimously to authorize the application and to confirm support for the programs.
The board’s authorization enables staff to proceed with any required local match and to implement the funded activities if the county awards the grant. Staff will return with additional implementation details if and when funding is awarded.
