Marshall service updates: CDL training, helipad progress and drone use highlighted

Marshall Daniel Meade delivered the Marshall Service report on June 25, outlining training, infrastructure and operational updates.
Councilman Daryl Leg asked about a partnership with LaSalle for CDL training; Meade said LaSalle is willing to provide training but needs a simulator so students can obtain permits before pursuing a full commercial driver's license. Meade said the matter can be discussed with LaSalle and council staff to determine what each side can provide.
Councilwoman Sasha Blackfox Quals asked about helipad features at Halbert EMS; Meade said the second bay is complete and staff are preparing to install lighting and markings to make the helipad fully operational.
Councilman Joe Deer praised the Marshall Service's drone work after a recent incident that could have become a shooting. "That drone that you guys do ... it's amazing stuff," Deer said, noting the unit used the drone to counteract a dangerous situation and praised personnel who operate it.
Meade said the Marshall Service also uses drones for search operations and other responses; committee members thanked him for the report and for the service's work on PTSD awareness and community safety.
