Board recognizes student achievement, accepts community donations and approves routine items

The Marion County School Board opened its June 9 meeting by recognizing students for outstanding attendance records and advanced-diploma completions.
Nick Blazer of Cojent/Cogent Bank presented awards and described bank support for the attendance recognition; two students — Alex (Vanguard High School) and Nathaniel (Forest High School) — were singled out for having missed very few days across their school careers and each received a certificate and an iPad provided through community support. Mark Ingram, coordinator for K-12 academics, then recognized dozens of students who completed advanced diploma programs (Cambridge, International Baccalaureate, AP Capstone) across district high schools including Belleview, Forest, North Marion, Vanguard and Westport.
The superintendent’s office announced community donations totaling $6,700 to be used at principals’ discretion: $1,200 to Belleview Middle School, $4,500 to Fort McCoy School and $1,000 to the media center at Stanton Whisdale School.
The board also approved routine governance actions by voice vote: approval of the meeting agenda, proof of publication for the June 9 meeting, and approval of May 7 and May 12 minutes. The consent agenda was approved and the board approved expulsions for several students for the remainder of 2025–26 and the 2026–27 school year with services, as documented in the meeting record.
Trustees emphasized the value of recognizing students and thanked community partners for financial and volunteer support.
