The transit business center is advancing: drywall work is underway and builders are 'on pace' for the project, though staff reported potential change-order issues related to providing water to a back warehouse and said contractor RCI is proposing options to resolve the problem. County staff reiterated a target completion around the end of October, but noted the elevator installation is a key schedule dependency.
Separately, staff discussed long-standing difficulties bringing the courthouse elevator up to current standards. Constraints include a small elevator shaft, limited basement pit depth that complicates hydraulic elevator options, and requirements for an isolated, air-conditioned electrical room for some cable-type systems. Because the courthouse is a historic building, installing an external elevator was raised as an option but would carry design and preservation implications.
Officials said they plan to consult the state elevator inspector to explore feasible repair or modernization paths. No formal decisions or funding authorizations were made at the meeting; staff described the matter as ongoing and dependent on technical review and coordination with the city and land bank for adjacent street work that has delayed elevator-site access in one location.
The board received these updates and will consider technical recommendations and potential change-order impacts in future project reports.
