Allamakee County opens bids for highway de-icing salt; Compass Minerals lowest at $104.58/ton

Sealed bids for 1,200 tons of bulk highway de-icing salt were opened June 22; Compass Minerals bid $104.58/ton ($125,496 total), Morton Salt bid $120.54/ton ($144,648 total), while Cargill and Black Strap declined to bid. County Engineer will review and recommend next week.

The Allamakee County Board opened sealed bids for bulk highway de-icing salt at its June 22 meeting. The bids read into the record were: Compass Minerals America Inc., 1,200 tons at $104.58 per ton ($125,496 total); Morton Salt, Inc., 1,200 tons at $120.54 per ton ($144,648 total). Cargill Salt Inc. submitted a letter stating no bid at this time; Black Strap Inc. also declined to bid by email. Engineer Brian Ridenour said he will review the bids and present a recommendation at next week's meeting.
