Perryton ISD reports gains on state tests, will expand targeted professional development and mentoring

Curriculum director Dr. Tyrie reported improvements on state STAR assessments (noting gains in 8th-grade math, U.S. history and biology and full mastery in eighth-grade Algebra I for 13 students) and outlined a targeted professional-development plan and a mentor program funded by a grant; trainers will come to district sessions to reduce travel.

Dr. Tyrie, the district's curriculum and instruction lead, told the board that recent STAR assessment results included increases in several subjects: eighth-grade math rose roughly 7 percent, U.S. history increased about 14 percent, biology improved about 18 percent, and all 13 students in eighth-grade Algebra I "mastered the test," she said.
