Kelson Bistol, an Eagle Scout candidate, told WashCo Weekly he is building two mud kitchens for the West Bend YMCA’s outdoor 4K program and has secured most materials through donations.
"I just got all the materials, so I need to stain them, build the mud kitchen itself... and then pretty much go pick up some landscaping timbers," Bistol said, describing steps that include leveling the ground, adding mulch and planting a flower bed around the installations.
Bistol said the units will sit in a back area behind the YMCA gymnasium used by the 4K program and that the YMCA asked for two additional mud kitchens in a different area. He listed pots, pans, spatulas and ladles among supplies already procured and said he still needs a sink basin and some hooks to complete the build.
Bistol said his personal deadline for completing requirements for Eagle is Aug. 27 (his birthday) and estimated the build could be finished in the next month or two. County Executive Josh Schoemann, who conducted the interview, thanked Bistol and praised the effort, telling him to "keep working hard."
