Fairview approves application for AFG to replace aging firefighter SCBA units

Fairview’s Board of Commissioners approved Resolution 41-26 on June 18 to support submission of an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) to replace the city’s 24-year-old self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units.
Fire Chief Hughes said the grant request is for roughly $254,000 with a required local match of about $12,700 (9.55% match). Chief Hughes and staff said the city has quotes ready and the grant application must be submitted by the upcoming Monday; awards are expected to be announced in late September. If awarded, the city would place equipment orders and must spend awarded funds within the grant’s performance period (typically one year).
Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the resolution and to support the matching funds. Staff indicated the match can be accommodated within the current budget or by reprogramming department line items if necessary.
