Maynard School Committee approves proprietary technology list for Green Meadow MSBA bid

The Maynard School Committee voted unanimously Nov. 21 to approve a list of proprietary technology and safety systems recommended for inclusion in the Green Meadow elementary school MSBA bid package.
Superintendent Hos and project staff presented the list, which they said was intended to standardize systems districtwide and ease future operations and maintenance. The proprietary list the committee approved includes Aruba network switches and wireless access points, Extreme network equipment, Avalon security and camera systems, Honeywell fire-alarm equipment and an Alerton building-management system.
Project staff and the district’s design team said the items were recommended because many districts standardize on systems that already work across buildings; that consistency, they said, reduces long-term operational complexity.
Committee members discussed whether additional proprietary items could be added in light of recent network issues. Project staff replied that the listed items are what the design and technology teams determined were appropriate for the 90% bid package and that other purchases (for example interactive whiteboards or services) would be addressed separately when the district develops standard platforms or goes out to bid.
The committee conducted a roll-call vote after a motion to approve the list. The roll call recorded Alexis, Hillary, Mary, Maro and Natasha as voting "yes," and the motion passed.
Next steps: project staff will finalize the 90% bid documents with the approved proprietary list and continue to report back to the committee on network troubleshooting and any additional vendor-standardization proposals.
