Solid Waste District plan faces possible veto from Brunswick, commissioners told

Solid Waste District Director Barb Walton informed the Medina County Board of Commissioners on June 23 that complications have emerged in the ongoing revision of the Solid Waste District Plan.
Walton said she learned the City of Brunswick is unwilling to amend its position on waiver agreements and has discussed potentially vetoing the plan. She told commissioners the district will convene a Policy Committee meeting next month to explore options and next steps. Walton noted the district’s current contract with Rumpke runs through 2033 and could be affected by the plan’s outcome.
Commissioner Colleen M. Swedyk also announced that a municipal annexation petition for three parcels (about 21.0788 acres) filed April 22 was withdrawn June 18, 2026; the scheduled hearing for June 23 was canceled. No city representatives or Brunswick responses were recorded in the minutes.
