Loose Senior Center reports program growth, ARPA update and operational changes

Loose Senior Center staff told the Board Sept. 23 that programming and participation have improved and flagged several operational items for the coming months.
Program Director Dotti Tynes said recent offerings included Consumer Energy efficiency classes and partnership events with Pay It Forward; she described the first talent show as a success, noted improved attendance at Movie Day, and said Bingo and Euchre are growing in popularity. Tynes also gave details about an upcoming Chili Cook-off, the return of a Mobile Secretary of State service, and that Alpine Marketplace has selected Loose for a monthly "Round Up" fundraising program. Travel Coordinator Gwen Fannon reported recent trips, plans for more in 2025 and that the Travel Club has one trip booked for 2025 to the Ratpack Lounge.
Director of Senior Services Tessa Sweeney provided administrative updates: a newsletter contract is under review; staff are negotiating an agreement with Southern Lakes Parks and Recreation (SLPR); required reporting for senior services is ongoing; American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds were discussed; lunches will change beginning in October; Loose will host a library book sale in October; and upcoming events with the Fenton-Linden Regional Chamber of Commerce include "Young Men and Women in the Workplace" and "Meet the Candidates." Sweeney also noted painting and quarterly operational numbers are on staff’s agenda.
Board members publicly thanked staff for the programming improvements during a round of comments. The Board approved paying the bills later in the meeting on a motion by Pamela Howd, seconded by Heather MacDermaid; the roll-call vote recorded seven ayes. President Danielle Cusson also announced a ribbon-cutting for the Linden Brewery and adjourned the meeting at 6:46 p.m.
Several operational items (SLPR agreement terms, ARPA allotments and the specifics of the lunch-service change) were listed during Sweeney’s report but not detailed in the minutes; staff were asked to follow up as needed.
