Monica Montferret, Chair of the Hinsdale Lake Management Committee, said the year-end report from Solitude Lake Management underestimates phragmites growth at Ashmere Lake and does not address an increase in lily pads. She told the committee she will consult Dominic (the consultant) to obtain a price for comprehensive water-quality testing for both Ashmere and Plunkett lakes.
Montferret said treating phragmites would likely require additional funds and any chemical treatment would need approval from the Conservation Commission. The committee did not authorize treatment or allocate funds at the meeting; members discussed next steps and the need to return with cost estimates and permit guidance.
Committee members said that identifying the extent of phragmites and clarifying the causes of increased lily-pad coverage are priorities before committing to a treatment strategy. No formal motion or vote on testing or treatment was taken at the meeting.
