Marion County approves zone change and concurs with Silverton plan map amendment

The Marion County Board of Commissioners on June 17 adopted two land‑use ordinances: an administrative ordinance approving Zone Change/Subdivision Case #26‑002 for applicant Antonio Diaz, and an ordinance concurring in the City of Silverton’s Comprehensive Plan Map amendment to reclassify a 3.72‑acre parcel in Silverton’s urban growth boundary from Industrial to Single‑Family Residential.
Gillian Peden presented the county’s consideration of the Zone Change/Subdivision case. Commissioner Danielle Bethell said she is not a fan of multi‑family housing in single‑residential neighborhoods but noted that the application before the Board was for a duplex rather than a larger apartment complex. "Just because it is in the City of Salem Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) does not mean that we should destroy communities and neighborhoods," Bethell said, adding that she appreciated the conversation and efforts to maintain cultural value in communities.
The Board moved and unanimously approved the ordinance for Case #26‑002. Later the Board adopted a separate administrative ordinance concurring with the City of Silverton’s Comprehensive Plan Map amendment, also by unanimous vote.
Both actions were taken during the Board session following staff presentations and before the Board’s public hearings on budget items.
