Murfreesboro board approves routine instructional, technology and safety contracts

The Murfreesboro City School Board on June 23 approved a slate of routine contract renewals and purchases district staff said were included in the FY27 budget or in existing curriculum funds.
Trustees voted to renew English language arts materials from Open Up Resources for kindergarten through sixth grade at $260,015 and to purchase Studies Weekly science materials for grades K–5 at $101,467. The board also approved an annual purchase of i‑Ready classroom mathematics materials (consumable student workbooks plus an online license) for K–6 at $399,840; staff clarified the purchase includes both printed consumables and the district license for the online component.
On technology and operations, the board approved a $68,199 Microsoft licensing and server‑software assurance renewal procured through CDW via the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing program, and a $47,250 purchase of 150 Motorola radios from Airwave Communications (150 units at $315 each) to replace aging radios and support school safety communications.
The board also approved a $3,325 contract with Master Fence to install about 48 linear feet of 4‑foot chain‑link fencing (two gates) at Mitchell Nielson Primary to enclose a Little Sprouts play area and meet state guidelines. Director Duke and staff said these purchases are district‑adopted materials or budgeted items and that the textbook/materials purchases appear on the Tennessee Textbook and Instructional Quality Commission list where applicable.
All of the contracts presented were approved by voice vote as part of the consent agenda. Staff said the purchases are budgeted in the general‑purpose curriculum, technology and operations funds as noted in the meeting packet.
