The Maynard School Committee voted to approve a Spanish exchange trip that will depart Feb. 12 and return Feb. 20, 2026.
Jen, the program organizer, told the committee the exchange has operated since 2017 and that visiting students come from the same Spanish partner school. She described steps to protect students, including medical and host-family forms, driver and carpool arrangements, social-media release forms and registration with the U.S. embassy in Madrid so families are on the embassy's radar during travel.
"The students who go have the opportunity to really be immersed completely in Spanish and they come back with really just increased confidence in their language abilities," Jen said, explaining daily school activities, excursions and host-family arrangements.
Committee members asked for the trip dates and clarified logistics. The committee then took a roll-call vote; members present — Mary Branley, Alexis Fishbone and Maro Hogan — voted yes and the motion carried.
The committee recorded a brief expression of thanks to the organizer and chaperones and wished students a safe trip. No further conditions were attached to the approval.
The committee will reconfirm trip paperwork and notification requirements with administrators before departure.
