Commissioners schedule workshop to map county services amid human services split

Chair proposed the workshop after noting recent media attention about the recovery center and the planned split of human services with Franklin County in June. "I think there's only so much money to go around to support the recovery center," the chair said, and asked staff to prepare bullet-pointed comparisons of services and costs so the public and media can better understand county responsibilities.
Commissioners supported the idea and asked staff to invite department administrators and local media. One commissioner urged Franklin County to participate and questioned whether Benton County taxpayers should bear costs for residents from neighboring counties.
No formal action or budget allocations were taken at the meeting; the workshop was proposed for the week after next to allow staff time to prepare materials.
