Chester Select Board names Brian Forgue chair, awards two student scholarships

The Chester Select Board on May 4 reorganized its leadership and approved two student scholarships.
Select Board member Jill Strong moved to appoint Select Board member Brian Forgue as chair; Craig Gauthier seconded and the motion passed. Shortly afterward, Brian Forgue moved to appoint Jill Strong as vice chair; Craig Gauthier seconded and that motion also passed.
The actions came at the start of the meeting, which opened at 6:01 p.m. and included Town Administrator Andrew Alward and Administrative Assistant Kim Fox. The board then reviewed applications for two town scholarships. The Franklin Hamilton scholarship is open to any Chester applicant and the Theodore Steinhardt scholarship is awarded to the applicant with the highest grade-point average.
Two students applied for both scholarships: Isabella LeBarron and Michael Whitaker. Select Board member Brian Forgue moved to award the Franklin Hamilton scholarship to both LeBarron and Whitaker; Jill Strong seconded and the motion passed. The board then moved to award the Theodore Steinhardt scholarship to the applicant with the highest GPA, Michael Whitaker; the motion passed.
The board handled the reorganizational votes and scholarship awards by motion and second; minutes reflect the motions passed without recorded dissent. The meeting continued with appointments and other business and adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
