Wright County supervisors appoint acting recorder, approve routine resolutions and personnel changes

The Wright County Board of Supervisors on Monday appointed Eric Russell as acting county recorder effective July 1, 2026, and administered the oath of office.

The action came as the board approved routine consent items, including the appointment of Lee Carlson, P.A.C., as a medical examiner investigator and a correction to May 11 minutes recording the Wright County Independent as the county's official newspaper.

The board also adopted Resolution 2026-21 to reclassify certain fund balances and create a communications fund under emergency management, and Resolution 2026-22 to raise the county's capital-asset reporting threshold for machinery, equipment and vehicles from $5,000 to $10,000. The increase was presented as a recommendation from the county's external auditors to reduce low-value inventory reporting burden.

Members present included supervisors Clouse, Rasmussen, Bosch, Brooks and Ellis. Votes on the fund balance resolution and the capital-asset threshold were recorded by roll call with supervisors voting aye; no nays were recorded on those resolutions.

Eric Russell recited the oath to support the constitutions of the United States and the State of Iowa and to faithfully discharge the duties of the office of recorder for Wright County. Colleagues offered brief congratulations after the swearing-in.

The appointments and resolutions were presented as routine business; the board approved a correction to prior minutes to record the previously missed motion appointing Wright County Independent as the official newspaper.

The board also recognized retiring staff members and noted upcoming retirement gatherings during the meeting's open forum.

The board adjourned the regular session after routine business.
