The Mitchell County sheriff reported on June 30 that the department has purchased/upgraded two squad cars — one retired unit and a newly outfitted vehicle — and submitted related receipts to the county for the vehicle and in-car equipment (lights, sirens and electronics).
The sheriff also announced the hire of Ashley Johnson, who has worked with the office for nine years as a reserve deputy and in the jail. The sheriff said Johnson will bring "great things to her agency" and that she is working nights; the department hopes to send her to the academy later this year depending on class availability.
No formal personnel action was required at the meeting; the sheriff said Johnson will be formally introduced to the board at an upcoming meeting when scheduling permits.
