Weld County approves immunization, STI and tuberculosis program renewals and inspection funding

Jason Chesher, representing Weld County Public Health, asked the board to approve multiple contract amendments and renewals to maintain public-health services.
On immunizations, Chesher presented amendment #3 to the immunization core-services contract, which would provide $89,469 to sustain childhood and school-required vaccine programs. "This amendment would provide $89,469 for that program," he said, and added there is a federal match expected that may require a subsequent amendment.
Chesher also described amendment #5 for syphilis field-delivered therapy and jail-based sexually transmitted infection programs, saying the funding supports one nurse to deliver field-based therapy and provide services in the jail. The board approved that amendment.
On tuberculosis, Chesher said the county is continuing to deal with active cases. "We are at this point continually dealing with at least a handful of patients in Weld County with active tuberculosis," he stated, and requested approval of a $65,000 allocation to maintain TB prevention and control work. Commissioners approved the amendment.
Chesher closed by noting the state will fund routine inspection programs for retail food, childcare, and schools at $79,000 for the fiscal year beginning July 1; that contract was also approved to maintain current inspection levels.
Board action: Each amendment and renewal was moved, seconded and approved on voice votes. Staff noted federal matching funds may prompt additional amendments in the future for immunization funding.
Next steps: Health Department will implement the amended scopes, and return if additional federal funding details require further board action.
