District staff present curriculum, technology updates and fall sports recap to Mapleton board

At the start of the Dec. 9 meeting several district staff and students were listed on the agenda to present updates to the board.
Students and staff from Mapleton High School (Vaughn Pokrzywa and Braylon Goon) were listed for audio-visual projects. Skip Fulton presented curriculum, instruction and assessment updates for literacy and mathematics, joined by literacy coaches Shelby Ortiz (grades 6–12) and Cassie Newcomer (PK–5). The District Technology Department update was provided by Bryan Spade and Craig Wentworth; the minutes note a staff technology conference scheduled for Jan. 11 and a robotics tournament scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m.
Katy Wiley provided a fall sports recap later in the meeting. Administrative reports included brief notes from Mapleton Elementary (Mrs. Swanson) about PBIS assembly, concerts and community events; Mapleton Middle School (Mr. Runkle) reported on a Nov. 6 dance, parent-teacher conferences and a veterans breakfast; and Mapleton High School (Mr. Kline) reported a new graduation requirement and strong parent-teacher conference turnout.
