Mapleton Local board approves hires, leaves and a volunteer coach

At the Dec. 9, 2024 meeting the Mapleton Local Board of Education approved the Superintendent's Consent Agenda, which covered routine personnel actions.
The board approved Hailey Maloon as a certified substitute and approved personal leave for Cathy Daly, intervention specialist, for Dec. 20, 2024. The board approved a one-year limited classified contract effective Nov. 26, 2024 for Kimberly Silbaugh as a custodian at Mapleton High School and approved personal leave for paraprofessional Sherri Teague (Nov. 26, 2024). The board also approved Jordan Davidson as a volunteer assistant boys basketball coach for the 2024–2025 school year. The consent agenda motion was made by Vince Hartzler and seconded by ShaNa Benner; the minutes record the vote as unanimous in favor.
Separately, the board approved an extended leave for custodian Zac Benner from Jan. 2–16, 2025, to be covered by accrued vacation, personal leave, sick leave and unpaid time as appropriate. That leave was approved on a motion by Mindy Scurlock, seconded by Kathy Goon; the minutes record ShaNa Benner as abstaining and the motion as carried.
The minutes note that employment approvals are pending criminal record checks and the meeting of district, local and state requirements for the designated positions. No disciplinary or investigatory details were recorded in the public minutes.
