The Mapleton Local School District Board approved an agreement June 9 with the Ashland County Sheriff's Office to provide a school resource officer (SRO)/DARE officer for the 2025–26 school year.
Board member ShaNa Benner moved to approve the agreement; Board President Mindy Scurlock seconded. The approved contract amount is $62,475 for the school year. The motion carried unanimously.
Why it matters: An SRO presence is a school-safety measure and often supports law-enforcement partnerships and drug-prevention programming such as DARE; the agreement commits district funds to the position for the coming school year.
What's next: The district will implement the agreement with the Ashland County Sheriff's Office for the 2025–2026 school year.
